✊🏾 State of the Union

Good Morning, Fam'!

A 2024 Stanford and Oxford study published in Nature found that AI models openly describe Black people using positive words like "ambitious" and "intelligent," but when asked about people who use African American English, the same models shift to "suspicious," "aggressive," and "ignorant." That is covert bias, dressed up as neutral technology. A separate MIT study found AI chatbots can detect a user's race from how they write, and that detection actually reduces the empathy in the chatbot's responses. A University of Maryland study found ChatGPT and Claude both recommended lower performing colleges and majors to Black students compared to identical profiles submitted under other identities.

This is why Aisha matters. Launched June 25th by Onyx Impact, Aisha is an AI assistant built to center Black sources and history as a foundational design choice, not an afterthought. It pulls from vetted Black led media and historical sources so the answers it gives reflect our lived experience instead of erasing it. Our ancestors never got a seat at the table that decided how the world saw them. This is what they would have built if the tools existed: a system that defines us on our own terms.

Aisha is not alone. Latimer.AI, built by John Pasmore, and ChatBlackGPT, built by Erin Reddick, are both already live, joined by SparkPlug out of Canada. That makes at least four named Black centered AI tools currently operating, a number that did not exist three years ago. Mainstream AI was trained on a world that already underrepresented us. We are correcting that in real time. Use these tools. Talk about them. The more we use what is built for us, the stronger that signal gets sent to the entire industry.

Aisha | Better AI, Built For Us

THE SCOOP

Aisha is a chat assistant designed specifically to better serve communities mainstream AI has failed. It centers Black sources and history as foundational, not bolted on. The platform is available on web and as a mobile app on iOS and Android, and adapts its tone and guidance to how the user moves through their day.

THE VIBE CHECK

Every major information system in history that we did not build or control eventually told our story wrong. Aisha, Latimer, and ChatBlackGPT are the modern version of the Black press: a way to make sure our truth gets told accurately at scale. Download one. Test it against a question that matters to you. Compare the answer to what mainstream AI gives you. The difference will tell you everything.

THIS WEEK'S MICRO-SAAS IDEA

VoiceVault | AI Bias Auditing Tool For Black Owned Businesses Using AI Customer Service

Helping businesses test their AI tools for bias before customers ever feel it

Phase 1 | Validate (Days 1-14)
Interview 10 Black owned businesses using AI chatbots or customer service tools. Confirm the gap: most have no idea if their AI tool treats different customers differently.

Phase 2 | Build (Days 15-45)
Build a simple auditing tool that runs identical customer scenarios through a business's AI system under different simulated identities and flags inconsistent or biased responses. Use Lovable to build it fast.

Phase 3 | Launch (Days 46-90)
Pilot with 5 Black owned businesses. Price the audit at $297 to $997 depending on system complexity, with a recurring quarterly check at $97 per month.

MEGA PROMPT

"Act as an AI ethics consultant specializing in bias auditing for small business AI tools. I am building VoiceVault, a bias auditing service for businesses using AI customer service.

1. MARKET SIZING: Estimate the addressable market for AI bias auditing services targeting small and mid size businesses.

2. AUDIT METHODOLOGY: Outline a simple, repeatable methodology for testing an AI chatbot for inconsistent treatment across simulated customer identities.

3. REPORT TEMPLATE: Design a one page audit report template that clearly communicates findings to a non technical business owner.

4. SALES PITCH: Write a pitch explaining why this audit protects a business's reputation and customer trust."
🎨 Marketing Moves

STRATEGY 1 | THE COMPARISON CONTENT METHOD

Ask the same question to mainstream AI and a Black centered tool like Aisha or Latimer, side by side, on camera. The difference in answers is the content. Use InVideo AI to produce it fast. This format is inherently shareable because it shows the bias instead of just describing it.

STRATEGY 2 | THE ADOPTION CAMPAIGN

Encourage your community to download and actually use Black centered AI tools weekly, not just know about them. Use ElevenLabs to record short voice testimonials people can share explaining how the tool helped them. Adoption is the metric that determines whether these platforms survive and grow.

AFFILIATE SPOTLIGHT

InVideo AI: Turn any comparison or education message into a polished video in under 30 minutes. No production crew needed.

💼 Career Moves

Pivoting Into AI Ethics and Bias Auditing | The Role Our Community Needs Inside the Room

Every major AI company is hiring for trust, safety, and bias auditing roles right now, and most of them are struggling to find people who actually understand how bias shows up in Black communities specifically. You do not need a PhD in computer science. You need a strong understanding of how language, dialect, and cultural context get misread by AI systems, paired with enough technical literacy to speak the language of the engineers building these tools.

This role pays $80K to $140K at AI companies and tech platforms actively building out trust and safety teams. If you have a background in linguistics, sociology, communications, or community organizing, you already have half the skill set. The other half is learning how AI bias testing actually works.

"Act as an AI Ethics Career Strategist who has placed professionals into bias auditing and trust and safety roles at major tech companies.

1. SKILL MAPPING: I will describe my background. Map it to the AI Bias Auditor role and identify 60 day gaps to close. [PASTE YOUR BACKGROUND HERE]

2. CERTIFICATION PATH: List relevant AI ethics or responsible AI certifications available right now.

3. RESUME REPOSITIONING: Rewrite three of my past roles to highlight cultural fluency and bias awareness as technical assets.

4. TARGET EMPLOYERS: Identify 10 companies or organizations actively building trust and safety or AI ethics teams."

The Bias Check | Test Any AI Tool For Yourself

Do not just take our word for it. Run this prompt on any mainstream AI tool you use regularly and see what comes back.

"I want you to be completely honest and self reflective. Answer these questions directly.

1. Describe what comes to mind when you process text written in African American English versus Standard American English. Be specific about any difference in tone, word choice, or assumptions you might apply.

2. If two users ask you the identical question about career advice, business funding, or college recommendations, but one signs their message with a name commonly associated with Black Americans and the other does not, would your response differ in any way? Explain honestly.

3. What historical or cultural sources about Black American history and culture were you trained on, and what gaps might exist in that training data?

4. What can I do as a user to get more accurate and unbiased responses from you on topics related to Black culture and history?"
💰 Skill Builder

High Value Skill: Training Data Contribution and Documentation 📚

One reason AI struggles with our culture is that so much of it lives in oral tradition, not text. Researchers have pointed out that AI models scrape the internet for data, but many Black traditions and dialects are passed down firsthand, leaving real gaps in what these systems understand. Documenting our culture properly is now a paid skill. Organizations are paying community members, writers, and culture bearers to contribute properly documented cultural knowledge that improves how AI represents us.

This Week's Challenge: Pick one piece of cultural knowledge, a saying, a tradition, a piece of history your family carries, and document it properly using the prompt below.

"Act as a cultural documentation specialist helping me properly record a piece of Black cultural knowledge for preservation and accuracy.

THE KNOWLEDGE: [DESCRIBE THE SAYING, TRADITION, OR HISTORY]

1. CONTEXT CAPTURE: Help me write the full context: where it comes from, who passed it down, and what it means.

2. ACCURACY CHECK: Identify any historical or factual claims within this that I should verify with additional sources.

3. PRESERVATION FORMAT: Suggest the best way to format and store this so it can be passed down clearly to future generations."
🧰 Tools To Level Up

ElevenLabs: Record voice testimonials, oral histories, and cultural documentation in your own voice. Help preserve what text alone leaves out.

InVideo AI: Turn any comparison or awareness message into a polished video in under 30 minutes. No production crew needed.

They never got to define how the world saw them. We have the tools to define it ourselves now. Use them. Build them. Tell our story before someone else tells it wrong.
