- Spend one dollar with a Black owned business today. Coffee, lunch, an online order, anything. Notice how hard or easy it was to find one. That friction is a business opportunity, and today's issue is about the power we unlock when we build together.
- This is Black August, a tradition of resistance, discipline, and self determination born on August 21, 1971. This Black Business Month issue is about the oldest strategy we have: pooling our power instead of building alone.

Good Morning, Fam'!
Every August, our community observes Black August, a tradition rooted in resistance, study, discipline, and self determination. It traces to August 21, 1971, and grew into a month of honoring those who fought for Black liberation and, just as important, the principle behind that fight: that we must build power for ourselves, together, because waiting to be given it has never worked. Black August is not only about remembering struggle. It is about the discipline of building something that belongs to us.
There is a word for the economic version of that principle, group economics. It is the simple, powerful idea that a dollar circulating within our own community, business to business, neighbor to neighbor, builds collective wealth in a way that scattered individual spending never can. For a moment in our history, on Black Wall Street in Tulsa, we lived it, a dollar reportedly circulated dozens of times before it left the community. That is the blueprint. Not every person building alone, but a network of us building together, buying from each other, hiring each other, investing in each other.
Here is what makes this Black Business Month different from any before it. AI has made building together radically cheaper and easier. A group of us can now share the cost of tools that used to require a corporation. Small businesses can pool into cooperatives and run like a big one. Partners can start a venture without either quitting their job. The tools of collective power are finally affordable to regular people. Black August teaches us the discipline. AI gives us the leverage. This week, we build together.
Black August and the Discipline of Building Our Own
THE SCOOP
Black August began as a commemoration of Black resistance and self determination and has grown into a month of study, discipline, and community building. Its core teaching is that lasting freedom comes from institutions and economic power a community owns and controls itself, not from permission granted by others. It is a call to organize, pool resources, and build together with intention.
THE VIBE CHECK
The business lesson of Black August is group economics, and AI just made it more achievable than ever. Instead of one person struggling to afford every tool and skill, a group can pool resources and build shared infrastructure that competes with far bigger players. Think cooperatives, partnerships, and collectives, powered by AI so a small group operates like a large company. Together we go far, and we own it.
Three ways to build collective wealth with AI. Group economics, modernized. Each turns a circle of people into shared, owned power.
MODEL 1 | THE SHARED SERVICES COOPERATIVE
The community need: individual Black owned businesses cannot each afford marketing, admin, and AI tools. The play: a group of owners forms a cooperative that shares one AI powered back office, marketing, bookkeeping, customer service, splitting the cost so everyone gets big business capability at small business prices.
MODEL 2 | THE COMMUNITY INVESTMENT CLUB
The community need: we build wealth slower when we invest alone and uninformed. The play: form an investment club where members pool money and use AI to research opportunities, local businesses, real estate, markets, turning a group of regular earners into a collective that funds and owns real assets together.
MODEL 3 | THE PARTNER POWERED VENTURE
The community need: many great ideas die because one person cannot do it all. The play: pair up, one brings the trade skill, one brings the hustle, and let AI cover the gaps neither of you has, so two working people can launch a real business without either quitting their job first.
MEGA PROMPT | BUILD YOUR COLLECTIVE
MY CIRCLE: [DESCRIBE THE PEOPLE YOU COULD BUILD WITH, THEIR SKILLS, AND WHAT YOU ALL WANT TO ACHIEVE]
1. THE MODEL: Recommend the best group structure for us, a cooperative, partnership, or investment club, and why it fits.
2. THE STRUCTURE: Explain in plain language how to set it up fairly, how ownership, money, and decisions should be split to avoid conflict.
3. THE AI LEVERAGE: Show me the shared AI tools and systems that let our group operate like a much bigger organization.
4. THE FIRST PROJECT: Give us one concrete project to do together in the first 30 days to build trust and momentum.
5. THE PROTECTION: Warn me about the common ways group ventures fall apart and how to protect ours from the start."
STRATEGY 1 | THE COLLECTIVE PROMOTION
Instead of marketing alone, market as a bloc. A group of complementary Black owned businesses can cross promote to each other's audiences, multiplying everyone's reach at zero cost. Produce a shared campaign with InVideo AI. When five businesses point their audiences at each other, everyone wins bigger than they could alone.
STRATEGY 2 | THE CIRCULATE THE DOLLAR CAMPAIGN
Build a public directory or content series spotlighting Black owned businesses in your area and encouraging people to keep dollars circulating. Narrate the features with ElevenLabs. Being the person who connects the community to itself makes you invaluable, and puts you at the center of the local economy.

The Community Builder | Turning Connection Into a Career
There is a role that grows more valuable every year: the person who builds and runs communities. Every brand, cooperative, and movement now needs someone who can gather people, keep them engaged, and turn connection into collective action. If you are the person others gather around, you can turn that into a career, as a community manager, a cooperative organizer, or the founder of your own network. AI lets one skilled community builder manage and grow a group that used to require a whole team, making this one of the most leveraged roles of the decade.
MY STRENGTHS: [DESCRIBE HOW YOU BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER AND WHAT COMMUNITIES YOU ARE PART OF]
1. THE ROLE FIT: Map my connecting ability to specific paid roles, from community manager to cooperative organizer, with pay ranges.
2. THE AI LEVERAGE: Show me the AI tools that let one person run and grow a large, active community.
3. THE PROOF: Describe how to demonstrate my community building ability to employers or as a founder.
4. THE PATH: Give me a 90 day plan to turn this strength into income."
The Partnership Architect | Structure a Venture That Lasts
Most partnerships fail not from bad ideas but from unclear agreements, who owns what, who does what, what happens when things change. This prompt helps you design a fair, durable partnership before a single dollar is on the line.
THE VENTURE: [WHAT YOU WANT TO BUILD AND WITH WHOM]
WHAT EACH PERSON BRINGS: [SKILLS, MONEY, TIME, CONNECTIONS FOR EACH PARTNER]
1. THE FAIR SPLIT: Suggest how to divide ownership based on what each person actually contributes, and explain the reasoning.
2. THE ROLES: Define clear lanes so we are not stepping on each other or leaving gaps.
3. THE WHAT IFS: Walk me through the hard questions we must answer now, what if someone wants out, what if we disagree, what if one person stops pulling weight.
4. THE AGREEMENT OUTLINE: Give me the outline of what our partnership agreement should cover to bring to a lawyer.
5. THE TRUST BUILDERS: Suggest small things we can do early to build the trust a partnership needs to survive."
High Value Skill: Building Trust and Managing People 🤝
Group economics only works on a foundation of trust and coordination. The reason many of our collective efforts have struggled is not lack of talent, it is the hard human work of keeping people aligned, accountable, and together through difficulty. This is a learnable skill, setting clear expectations, handling conflict, sharing credit and money fairly. Master it and you can lead any group venture, which is where the biggest wealth is built. No one gets rich entirely alone.
This Week's Challenge: Identify one group or partnership you want to strengthen and use the prompt below to build a plan for healthier coordination.
MY GROUP: [DESCRIBE THE PARTNERSHIP, TEAM, OR COLLECTIVE AND ANY TENSION OR CHALLENGE IN IT]
1. THE REAL ISSUE: Help me see the actual root of any friction, which is often unclear expectations, not bad people.
2. THE CLEAR AGREEMENTS: Give me the specific expectations we should set together to prevent conflict.
3. THE HARD CONVERSATION: If I need to address something, script how to raise it in a way that strengthens rather than damages the relationship.
4. THE RHYTHM: Suggest a simple recurring practice to keep our group aligned and accountable over time."
