Good Morning, Fam'!

On this day, October 9, 1806, we lost Benjamin Banneker. A free Black man from Maryland with almost no formal schooling, Banneker studied a borrowed pocket watch and carved an entire striking clock out of wood, gear by gear. It kept time for decades. He went on to teach himself astronomy, publish his own almanacs, help survey the land that became Washington, DC, and write Thomas Jefferson a letter calling out the hypocrisy of slavery.

Now look at where we stand. In August, Black unemployment sat at 6%, while white unemployment was 3.7%. Even worse, more of our people have stopped looking for work altogether. When the doors close on us, Banneker's answer still works: do not wait for someone to sell you the clock. Build the machine yourself.

This week the biggest tech companies on earth started handing small businesses their own AI agents, most of them free. That is our opening. Today we break down the agent wave, the business you can build setting agents up for others, and the prompt that designs your first one.

How Jennifer Aniston’s LolaVie brand grew sales 40% with CTV ads

For its first CTV campaign, Jennifer Aniston’s DTC haircare brand LolaVie had a few non-negotiables. The campaign had to be simple. It had to demonstrate measurable impact. And it had to be full-funnel.

LolaVie used Roku Ads Manager to test and optimize creatives — reaching millions of potential customers at all stages of their purchase journeys. Roku Ads Manager helped the brand convey LolaVie’s playful voice while helping drive omnichannel sales across both ecommerce and retail touchpoints.

The campaign included an Action Ad overlay that let viewers shop directly from their TVs by clicking OK on their Roku remote. This guided them to the website to buy LolaVie products.

1 | Meta Hands Small Businesses a Free AI Agent

THE SCOOP

Meta launched Muse for Small Business, an AI agent you give a goal like "find new customers" and it gets to work. It plugs into tools you already use, including QuickBooks, Shopify, Stripe, Canva, Klaviyo, and your Facebook and Instagram business pages. Meta says nothing publishes, sends, or spends without your approval, and most of it is free.

THE VIBE CHECK

This is the first time a free agent reaches the barbershop, the boutique, and the food truck at the same time as the big brands. Our businesses run lean, so the owner is usually the marketer, bookkeeper, and front desk. Free help that asks permission first is a real equalizer. Start it on reports and drafts, not money.

2 | OpenAI Launches Agents That Never Clock Out

THE SCOOP

At DevDay, OpenAI introduced dots, agents that keep working around the clock from a cloud computer and connect to over 4,000 apps, replying inside ChatGPT, Slack, or Teams. For now, your first dot comes with the Pro and Business Premium plans, with wider access promised later.

THE VIBE CHECK

Two giants launching agents in one week tells you where this is going: everybody gets a digital staff. The winners will not be the people with the fanciest agent. They will be the people who know exactly what job to give it.

THE MOVE | THE AGENT SETUP SERVICE

The community need: every small business owner just got access to an AI agent, and almost none of them have time to set it up right. The play: become the person in your city who does it for them. Connect their tools, write their approval rules, and build three starter tasks like a weekly sales report, review replies, and a content calendar. Charge a setup fee plus a small monthly check in. Banneker surveyed the land. You survey the workflow.

MEGA PROMPT | DESIGN YOUR FIRST AGENT

"Act as an AI operations consultant helping me design my first AI agent for my business.

MY BUSINESS: [WHAT YOU DO, WHO YOU SERVE, AND THE TOOLS YOU USE]
MY TIME DRAINS: [THE 3 TASKS THAT EAT YOUR WEEK]

1. THE JOB: Pick the one task an agent should take first and explain why.

2. THE BLUEPRINT: Write step by step what the agent should do, which tools it needs, and what a finished result looks like.

3. THE GUARDRAILS: List exactly what the agent must ask my permission for before acting.

4. THE INSTRUCTIONS: Write the full instructions I should paste into my agent.

5. THE SCORECARD: Tell me how to measure if it is actually saving me time after two weeks."
💼 Career Moves

The AI Agent Operator | The Job Title Being Born Right Now

If the job market is shutting us out, walk in through the newest door. As companies hand work to agents, somebody has to assign the work, check the output, and fix it when it breaks. That person is the agent operator. You do not need a computer science degree. You need to understand a business process and write clear instructions. If you have ever trained a new hire, you already have the core skill.

"Act as a career coach for AI agent operations roles.

MY BACKGROUND: [YOUR CURRENT ROLE AND THE PROCESSES YOU KNOW BEST]

1. THE FIT: Show me how my experience translates to managing AI agents.

2. THE PROOF: Give me one small agent project I can build in a weekend to show employers.

3. THE PITCH: Write the two sentences I should add to my LinkedIn headline and resume."
