On this day, September 25, 1957, nine Black teenagers, the Little Rock Nine, walked into Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, escorted by the 101st Airborne Division because a mob and a governor had tried to keep them out. They were 15, 16, 17 years old. They endured spit, threats, and violence just to sit in a classroom. Why did they risk their lives for a desk and a textbook? Because our people have always understood a truth this country tried to hide from us: education is the door to everything. For generations we were punished for learning to read, then denied equal schools. The Little Rock Nine forced one of those doors open, and every one of us walked through behind them.

So let's talk about the door standing open today. For all of history, the best education went to those who could afford it, the private tutors, the elite schools, the test prep that wealthy families quietly paid for. That gap in learning became the gap in wealth. But something just changed that our ancestors could scarcely have imagined.
