The Culture Code AI | A Black voter casting a ballot with dignity on Election Day
Tuesday, November 3, 2026 | Election Day | Editor: Morris Smith
⚡ Quick Wins
  • Today is Election Day. If you have not voted, go. Polls are open. Nothing on your calendar matters more than this. Make the plan, bring somebody, and cast your ballot today.
  • On this exact day, twice, our people were attacked for voting. The Eufaula Massacre in Alabama (1874) and the Danville Massacre in Virginia (1883) both happened on November 3rd, used to terrorize Black voters away from the polls. We vote today on the graves of people who died for this right.
  • The same playbook is still running. The tactics changed from mobs to paperwork, closed polling sites, purged rolls, and long lines, but the goal is the same: make us give up. Today we refuse.
  • Voting is step one, not the finish line. If our side wins the House and Senate, that is when the real work begins: holding them accountable. We show you how to build that plan with AI below.

✊🏾 State of the Union

Good Morning, Fam'!

Before you do anything else today, know this: people died on this exact date so you could vote. Not as a figure of speech. On November 3, 1874, in Eufaula, Alabama, a white mob fired some 400 shots into a crowd of Black men waiting to vote. At least six were killed, as many as eighty wounded, and roughly 500 who had not yet cast a ballot fled for their lives. The next year, Black turnout in that town fell from 1,200 to barely a handful. The terror worked exactly as designed.

Nine years later, November 3, 1883, in Danville, Virginia, right here in our own state, it happened again. Danville had a Black majority and a biracial government where Black men held real power on the city council. Days before the election, white leaders published a flyer raging against Black political progress, and then the shooting started. Several people were killed, armed white patrols took the streets, and frightened Black residents stayed home on Election Day. Within two years, that biracial coalition was gone. A community's political power, erased by violence and fear.

I tell you these hard truths not to sadden you, but to steel you. Because the playbook never died, it just got quieter. The mob became the purged voter roll. The flyer became the disinformation text, the social media post and the algorithms. The gunfire became the five hour line in our neighborhood and no line in theirs. The goal has not changed in 150 years: make us believe our vote does not matter so we hand it back without a fight. Today, on the anniversary of two massacres meant to silence us, we answer with the loudest thing we own. We vote. And then, if we win, we get to work. Let's build.

Gemini's New Daily Brief | Turn Watchdog Into a Daily Habit

THE SCOOP

Google just rolled out major upgrades to the Gemini app. The headliners: a Daily Brief that builds you a personalized morning summary and surfaces follow up tasks, and Spark, a 24/7 agent that keeps working in the background, monitoring, summarizing, and running recurring workflows even when your device is closed. In plain terms, you can now point AI at a topic and have it keep watch and report back, every single day, without you lifting a finger.

THE VIBE CHECK

Here is the move nobody is talking about. The reason officials get away with ignoring us is that we stop paying attention after Election Day. They count on it. Now you can assign an AI to be your watchdog, tracking your representatives' votes, your local council's decisions, the promises made this week, and briefing you every morning. Accountability used to require a full time staff. Now it requires an app and a little intention. We make voting a day and oversight a habit.

🚀 Builder's Playbook

Three plays for the day after the win. Voting is the entry fee. These are original strategies to turn a victory into actual change in your community, powered by AI that never stops watching.

MOVE 1 | THE ACCOUNTABILITY TRACKER

The need: politicians make promises in October and forget them by January, because nobody is keeping the receipts. The play: pick the 3 promises that matter most to your community, and set up an AI brief to track whether your elected officials actually follow through. When they do, praise them loudly. When they do not, remind them, publicly. A voter who is still watching in the spring is a voter they cannot ignore.

MOVE 2 | THE PEOPLE'S AGENDA

The need: we often react to their agenda instead of setting our own. The play: get a few people together and write down the 5 things your neighborhood actually needs, the stop sign, the funded program, the slumlord, the closed clinic. Use AI to turn it into a clean one page agenda you can email, hand to a council member, or post. You have a majority on your block. Act like it.

MOVE 3 | THE SHOW UP SCHEDULE

The need: the rooms where decisions get made are usually empty of us, and empty rooms get ignored. The play: have AI find your local city council, school board, and community meeting dates and put them on a simple schedule. Pick one a month and show up, with two other people. Power pays attention to who is in the room. Make sure that is us.

MEGA PROMPT | BUILD YOUR ACCOUNTABILITY PLAN

"Act as a community organizer helping me build a simple plan to hold my elected officials accountable after the election, so my vote keeps working all year.

MY COMMUNITY: [YOUR CITY/STATE AND THE 3 ISSUES YOU CARE ABOUT MOST]

1. THE PLAYERS: Help me identify who actually represents me at the local, state, and federal level, and what each one has power over. [TELL ME TO CONFIRM NAMES AND OFFICES AT MY OFFICIAL STATE OR LOCAL GOVERNMENT WEBSITE]

2. THE PROMISES: Help me list the specific commitments tied to my issues that I should track.

3. THE WATCH: Design a simple monthly routine for me to check whether they are following through.

4. THE PRESSURE: Give me respectful, effective ways to apply pressure, calls, emails, showing up, when they fall short.

5. THE COALITION: Show me how to pull a few neighbors into this so it is a group effort, not just me."

If you have not voted yet, do that first. Confirm your polling place, hours, and ID rules at your official state or local election website before you head out.

🎨 Marketing Moves

STRATEGY 1 | THE LAST CALL

It is Election Day, and your voice can still move people. Post one clear message today: polls are open, here is how to find yours, go. Use AI to make it fast and shareable. The person who was going to skip it just needs one nudge from somebody they trust. Today, be that nudge for as many people as you can reach.

STRATEGY 2 | THE RECEIPTS FOLDER

Start a simple habit today: keep the receipts. Screenshot the promises, save the headlines, note who said what. Use AI to organize it so that months from now, when it is time to hold someone accountable, you have the record. Memory is power. The people counting on us to forget are counting on us not doing this.

AFFILIATE SPOTLIGHT

Airtable: Build a simple tracker for your reps, their promises, and your community projects, no spreadsheet skills needed, with AI built in to help you organize it. Keep the receipts in one place. Free to start.

It's time to set up your holiday streaming campaign

Are you ready to reach holiday shoppers on CTV? For many streamers, the season is already underway.

Last year, according to Roku internal data, holiday content searches on Roku saw an 86% increase during October. And in November, those searches rise an average of 39% weekly. This surging holiday spirit is mirrored by consumer activity, as about half of Roku streamers shopped Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals in 2025.

Meeting those shoppers is easier than you might think. Begin with the seasonal outcome you hope to drive: awareness, online sales, leads, store visits, or another measurable goal. From there, define your audience, upload your creative, set the budget and campaign dates, and establish measurement before launching. You can even create a shoppable ad unit that lets streamers buy with a click of their remote.

Our holiday playbook offers a month-by-month guide to reaching shoppers during this all-important time of year.

First-time spenders get a $5,000 match on the first $5,000 spent with code BEEHIIV5K. Terms apply.

💼 Career Moves

Become the Informed One in Every Room

The people who get ahead, at work and in the community, are the ones who walk in already knowing what is going on. The same AI brief that can track your city council can track your industry, your company, your competitors. Set up a daily brief on the things that move your career and you become the person who always has the context, the one leadership turns to because you are never caught off guard. The skill is the same whether you are watching a senator or a market: pay attention on purpose, with a system. In a world drowning in noise, being reliably informed is a superpower that gets you promoted.

"Act as a career coach helping me use an AI daily brief to become the most informed, on top of it person in my field.

MY FIELD: [YOUR INDUSTRY, ROLE, AND WHAT YOU NEED TO STAY AHEAD OF]

1. THE SOURCES: Help me decide what I should track daily to be the most informed person in my workplace.

2. THE BRIEF: Design the ideal morning brief that keeps me sharp without drowning me.

3. THE EDGE: Show me how to use what I learn to stand out and add visible value.

4. THE ROUTINE: Give me a simple daily habit I can actually keep."
🔥 Prompt Lab

The Power Audit | Who Really Runs Your Neighborhood

Most of us could not name our own city council member, and that is exactly how they like it. The folks in Danville and Eufaula understood local power, and it was taken from them by force. This prompt hands you the map, who holds power where you live, and what they actually control, so you can use it.

"Act as a civics guide helping me understand exactly who holds power where I live and how to reach them.

WHERE I LIVE: [YOUR CITY AND STATE]

1. THE MAP: Explain the layers of local power, city council, mayor, school board, county, state rep, and what each one actually decides. [TELL ME TO CONFIRM THE CURRENT OFFICEHOLDERS AT MY OFFICIAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT WEBSITE]

2. THE LEVERS: Tell me which of these has the most direct impact on everyday life in my community.

3. THE ACCESS: Explain how regular people can actually reach and influence each one, meetings, comment periods, calls.

4. THE OPENING: Point me to the single easiest place to start getting involved this month."
💰 Skill Builder

High Value Skill: Accountability 📋

Here is the hard lesson from our history: we have always been powerful at the moment of protest and the moment of the vote, but the other side wins in the long quiet stretch afterward, when attention fades and they do what they wanted all along. The massacres of 1874 and 1883 worked because they broke the follow through, they scattered a community right when it was gaining ground. Accountability is the skill of not letting go. It is the discipline of keeping watch, keeping records, and keeping pressure on, long after the cameras leave. It is less dramatic than marching, but it is where real change is actually won or lost. Build this skill and you become the person power cannot wait out.

This Week's Challenge: After you vote, do one accountability act. Find out who won something you care about, write down one promise they made, and set a reminder to check on it in 90 days. Start the habit of not forgetting.

Black community members planning together at a civic accountability meeting

They used terror to make our ancestors stop showing up. The modern version just hopes we lose interest. Prove them wrong. Vote today, then keep watching tomorrow.

🧰 Tools To Level Up

Vote.org: It is Election Day. Find your polling place, confirm your hours, and check your ID rules right now. If you have not voted, this is your first and most important link today.

Gemini: The Daily Brief from today's issue. Point it at your reps and your issues and let it keep watch, so accountability becomes something that happens automatically every morning.

Aisha: The AI assistant built by us. Use it to map your local power, draft your people's agenda, and organize your accountability plan. Use it and help it grow.

On this day in 1874 and again in 1883, they used bullets to keep us from the ballot. Today we walk up to that same ballot box with our heads high and cast the vote they died trying to deny. But do not stop there. If we win, the work is just beginning. Vote today. Keep watch tomorrow. Hold them accountable all year. That is how we honor the fallen and finally break the pattern. Go vote, fam.
